TRADITION

According to Greek mythology, the olive tree is a gift of the goddess of wisdom Athena, daughter of Zeus the governor of the twelve gods of Olympus.

The goddess, according to the ancient myth, planted the first olive tree hitting her spear on the sacred rock of the Acropolis (ACROPOLIS Olive Oil) and thus the citizens of the place decided to name their city Athens in order to thank her for this precious gift. The myth has it that then the goddess taught the Athenians the cultivation of the tree and how to get oil from its fruit, the olive.

Athletes in ancient years smeared their bodies with oil to gain vigor and strength.

When Hercules, the famous mythical hero of antiquity, completed his 12 labors, he brought back and planted olive sapling in the ancient city of Olympia where the ancient Olympic Games used to take place. The branches of the same olive tree crowned the Olympic winners of the ancient years that were also given olive oil as a prize. During the 2004 Olympic Games of Athens, the winners were crowned again with olive wreath as they did in ancient times.
